Motorcycle Repair Tips

Wash The Bike

Cleaning your bike is as good as a full service for your bike. It might seem useless, but there’s more benefit to washing your bike than meets the eye. While cleaning, you can get rid of any corrosive salt, or any dirt that’s covering up worse problems, and restore the original good looks of your bike.

Check The Coolants

If you find it hard to maintain your brakes and battery, how about something a little easier. Coolant level check is one of those most neglected motorcycle repair jobs that you must do regularly and requires minimal effort.

Use the manual to locate the drain plug, remove it, and get rid of that old coolant. It is advised to do the check when the engine is cold. With the system drained, put the plug back and whip up a new coolant mixture with de-ionized water and anti-freeze in equal ratio. Fill it to the level advised by the manual, and check your lines and hoses, squeezing them to get any air pockets out.

Keep A Look On The Battery

Batteries may by far be the most demanding motorcycle repair job for a bike. Whether battery maintenance is simple or hard depends on where your battery is on your bike.

Regularly checking your battery may prolong its life. Start by finding and removing it from its holster with caution. Gently place it down on a surface and check for acid level. If the level is shallow, fill it up with de-ionized water and put it on a charge. Give the terminals a nice greasing to help avoid corrosion and replace your battery.

Adjust Your Bike Chains

An improper chain may result in very costly repairs that you could’ve avoided if you kept an eye out. A faulty chain can cause heavy wear and tear in the gearbox and rear suspension issues. The unnecessary stress on the chain gives you a horrible ride in general. Chains wear and break, but with a little awareness, you can make that event later rather than sooner.

Keep Tires In Check

Having a good tire pressure is one of the most basic maintenance checks, but we often ignore it. It is advised to check your pressures every week, but this motorcycle repair tip is never taken into account. It would be best if you did not worry about your mechanic about checking the tires, and you can do it yourself. The low pressure in the tires may have adverse effects on your handling and braking due to an uneven tire wall. If the pressure is too high in the tires, your tires may be prone to bursting.
